Brotaufstrich mit
Apfel und Zwiebel (German)
Makes 1 1/2 cups (585 ml)

7 Tbs. (150 ml) soft butter (can be less)
2 cups (470 ml) unpeeled chopped apples
1 cup (235 ml) onion
2-4 Tbs. (30-60 ml) chopped organic walnuts, hazelnuts, or pecans

1. Sauté apples and onions in 2 Tbs. (30 mil) butter until soft and golden color.
2. Place in a blender or food processor. Add nuts and process until smooth .
3. Mix in the remaining butter.
  • It freezes well.
  • Spread on bead, muffins, toast.
  • Use as a dip with crackers.
  • Add a little oil and use as a pesto sauce.
4. Add some herbs:
goes well with...
onions: thyme and marjoram
apples: sage, lemon balm (of the mint family)
5. Apples and spices combinations: cloves, vanilla, caraway, coriander seeds, cardamon, allspice and pepper
