What a cold, windy, rainy day. A hot drink will go good now.
Makes 5-6 drinks

4 cups (960 ml) organic apple cider
4 whole black peppercorns
6 or 7 cinnamon sticks
3 whole dried cloves
1 organic orange
1 organic red apple
optionals: 
  • good bourbon 
  • 1 star anise
A.
1. Place the apple cider, peppercorns, 1 cinnamon stick, cloves, and optional star anise in a medium saucepan.
2. Cut a large peel from the orange and add to the pan.
3. Bring to a boil, lower, and simmer for 5 minutes.
4. Strain into a 4-cup (960 ml) glass measuring cup and discard the solids.

B.
1. Pour the hot cider into mugs or heatproof glasses.
2. optional: add 2 Tbs. (30 ml) bourbon to each mug.
3. Cut the orange in half through he stem, slice crosswise thick half-rounds and add 2 slice to each mug.
4. Cut the apple in half through the stem, remove the core, slice crosswise thick half-rounds and add 1 slice to each glass.
5. Serve hot with a cinnamon stick in each mug for stirring.
