Organic store ketchup is the safest, no pesticides, GMOs, nor high corn syrup. Homemade ketchup can be adjusted to various taste, eg. German curry ketchup. Here are some ideas.

Bite of history: In the 1500s, "ketchup" started as a Chinese fish sauce called kê-ziap. British traders brought it to Europe in the 1600s, making versions with mushrooms and walnuts. It was not until 1812, that the first tomato recipe was created.

Makes about 2 cups (260 g)

1 can of 14 ounce (400 g) organic whole tomatoes
1 Tbs. (15 ml) organic tomato paste
1/4 cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar 
1/4 cup (30 g) organic honey
1/2 tsp. (1 g) each: black pepper, onion and garlic powders, Himalayan salt, and paprika

optional: 
  • dash or two cayenne pepper and/or cinnamon
  • little ground mustard
  • 1 Tbs. (15 g) organic brown sugar
  • hot sauce
  • chili peppers
  • blended: banana, mango, or caramelized onion

1 . Blend there whole tomatoes.
2. Strain into a sauce. 
3. Add the spices and tomato paste.
4. Simmer over medium heater about 8-10 minutes.
5.  Cool. 
6. Pour into an airtight container, refrigerate for up to 3-4 weeks, or freeze for up to 6 months.

📌(one type of ) German Curry ketchup/ Curry-Ketchup or Curry Gewürz Ketchup (German)
Makes 1 cup ( 130 g)
1 cup (130 g) tomato ketchup
4 tsp. (8 g) curry powder
2 tsp. (4 g) sweet paprika
2 tsp. (10 ml) Worchester sauce and honey
1 tsp. (5 g) chili powder
1 tsp. (5 ml) water

1. Mix all the ingredients.
2. Rest overnight in the refrigerator.
