Guests drop in over the holidays. What to serve? Have some of these items on hand, sit back, and enjoy the company.
Assiette de fromage de fête

A good cheese plate has balance:

I. Choose three to four cheeses that are different in texture and taste.
 a. example: semifirm (Gouda), a blue cheese (Gorgonzola), goat cheese, and a hard cheese (Parmesan). Add some dairy free* and vegan cheeses.
 b. Remove the cheese from the refrigerator an hour before serving...if you have that much warning!

II. Have a variety of breads and crackers.
 a. Slice a baguette into thin rounds, brush with olive oil and back at 350F (175C) until golden.
 b. Serve different types of crackers for soft and hard cheeses as well as gluten-free rice crackers.

III. Condiments:
 a. example: jams, fig spread, and Dijon mustard in small dishes

IV. Organic fruits and nuts, plus variety of olives:
 a. example: grapes, fresh or dried figs, apricots, or dates; almonds; green, black, and stuffed olives

V. Drinks:
 a. wine, mineral water, hot apple cider

VI. Miscellaneous:
 a. cocktail napkins, cheese knives, spoons, background music
