Thinking outside the box, toss organic kale and basil leaves as a salad. Add sliced organic peaches and crumbled (dairy-fee) goat cheese with a dressing of organic lemon juice and olive oil.

There are ten types of basil:

  • Christmas basil- adds flavor to salads and drinks
  • Cinnamon basil- a fragrant and spicy flavor, use for fresh arrangements, in fruit salad, and as garnish
  • Dark opal basil- adds color to a dish, as a spice to salad or as a garnish, made into pesto
  • Holy basil (aka Sacred basil or Tulsi)- leaves used to make tea
  • Lime basil- lime scent and flavor in fish and chicken dishes, add to tea and margaritas
  • Spicy bush basil- has an intense flavor to add to sauce or soup
  • Sweet basil- Italian sauces, soups, and pesto
  • Sweet Thai basil- intense anise-scented, works well in curries
  • Purple basil- a mild taste, good for garnish
  • Lemon basil- add to ice tea, cocktails, use in salads, pesto, etc. for a sweet, citrusy taste
