Tomatoes were introduced to the Middle East by way of Asia through the Silk Road trade route, which was around 114 BCE to 1450s CE. Since tomatoes are served sliced on plates with just about every course in Lebanon, variations are important.
(Lebanon dialect) بنادورة بلسمك
/banadoora belsummak/
Serves 4
4 large organic tomatoes
1 Tbs. (15 g) sumac spice 
1 tsp. (5 g) garlic paste*
1 organic lemon juice (about 3 Tbs./45 ml)
1/2 cup (120 ml) olive oil

1. Slice the tomatoes.
2. Whisk the sumac, garlic paste, lemon juice, and oil a salad bowl with a folk.
3. Pour on the tomatoes and serve.
